An interesting question to ask, isn’t it?
Even more, when you have to ask it 3 times in 3 different ways to at least 3 different friends!
In the second half of 2016, after 7.5 years of intensively running my entertainment business, I felt that a certain key aspect in my business was missing, it felt like it became boring, less exciting, less meaningful. Being a passionate, optimistic and creative entrepreneur, it was a very strange and uncomfortable feeling for me, which I never experienced before. I momentarily missed my usual energy, drive and passion for my business and I started to wonder and ask myself: “Ok, is this it? What’s next? Is there a next? Is this all? Did someone switch off my energy button?”
Searching for inspiration, I ‘ran into’ a podcast by Linda Tucker interviewing Simon Sinek, in which he presents an exercise on finding your personal and business WHY. How? This by asking three people in your circle of trustees: “Why are you friends with me?” “What makes it that I know that no matter what, I can always count on you, even if I call you in the middle of the night?”
Finding it a funny method and always eager for some new experiences, I decided to immediately try it out. Slightly awkward, I asked 3 of friends the questions as Simon suggests in his podcast. To my utter surprise, my three friends came back with exactly the same responses! Looking back, I don’t know why I was so surprised about that, because in the end it is so core to who I am, so obvious!
What exactly is my WHY? The WHY I discovered for my personal and business life? I will share that with you during the coming weeks!
In the meantime, if you are excited to find out your ‘Why’, then you can listen to the podcast below.
